Pioneering inventions, like the diesel engine itself, form an integral part of our history. The MAN Group’s origins date back to 1758 – when the St. Antony iron mill was founded in Oberhausen (Germany). That was just the start.

Foundation of the St. Antony iron mill, the origin of today’s MAN Group.
1787:
The "Gute Hoffnung" (Good Hope) iron mill became Germany’s first rail manufacturer.
1888:
Development of Germany’s first triple-expansion steam-engine.
1893
- 97:Together with Maschinenfabrik Augsburg AG, Rudolf Diesel built the world’s first diesel engine.

2004:
MAN launches its breakthrough D20 Common Rail generation of engines.
2005:
Construction of the world’s largest methanol plant M5000 in Trinidad.
2006:
Opening of a new production plant for heavy trucks in India, founded by the joint venture MAN Force Trucks Pvt. Ltd.
2006:
MAN launches 51/60 dual-fuel engine for LNG carriers.
2007
MAN launches the latest hybrid bus prototype that saves up to 30 percent of fuel compared to a conventional diesel bus.
2008
MAN wins the German Business Innovation Prize for its newly developed 32/40PGI gas engine.
